The Australian Derby is open to three year old and it is known as the top ranked event for 3-year-olds in Australian and New Zealand race classifications. The name of the race is commonly referred to as the AJC Derby.
New Zealand horse Nom Du Jeu won the Australian Derby in an upset by beating Red Ruler. The win made Nom Du Jeu the first kiwi horse to win a Group One in Sydney since Honor Babe in the 2003 Sydney Cup.
